LOTH Helps Make Learning Center a Reality

executives visited the University of Cincinnati's College of Engineering and Applied Science, and J.B. Buse, chairman and CEO of LOTH, presented a $20,000 check to F. James Boerio, director of the CEAS School of Engineering Education, to support the new

Buse reflected, “Over the years, I have been thrilled with UC’s continued excellence as a university. UC has always been willing to evaluate how they are delivering the educational experience, a quality that surely has played a role in making UC one of the top national universities and a global leader in research.”

LOTH’s recent project with CEAS resulted in a redesigned learning center—a state-of-the-art, cutting-edge space where students and staff can gather to collaborate or work independently.  Buse states, “It is really refreshing to partner with a thought-leading institution, like UC, that recognizes the importance of making every space an active learning space while creating a sense of community between faculty, staff and students.”

The Alumni Engineering Learning Center project renovated space within CEAS for the new learning center as well as a number of classrooms and computer labs. The learning center is a 10,000 square foot, $6 million investment and is a physical embodiment of the college’s commitment to a strongly enhanced freshman year experience which begins with engineering fundamentals in the very first year. In addition to housing the School of Engineering Education, the center accommodates 24 faculty members and 175 students through its state of the art study areas, classrooms, offices and common space.
 

The center includes reconfigurable classrooms, three project rooms, and spaces for individual and group study. It also features spaces for tutoring and advising, an information center, faculty offices and an inviting coffee bar. The flexibility of reconfigurable spaces is a key theme for the learning center. This flexibility fosters different teaching and learning styles which improves effective learning as CEAS remains a pioneer in the pedagogy of engineering.
