Picture This: Data Visualization Day Coming to UC on Jan. 24

From spreadsheets and databases to multidimensional visual analysis, UC Center for Business Analytics in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business is bringing the power of data visualization to the UC campus for a day.

Data Visualization Day will feature talks by industry professionals and hands-on demonstrations of business intelligence software packages for greater insight into the fast-growing field of data analytics.

A workshop is planned from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., on Jan. 24, at UC’s Tangeman University Center. The morning will feature talks by Andy Walter, vice president of Business Intelligence at Procter & Gamble, and Jeff Shaffer, vice president of Analytics and IT at Unifund. The two will share best practices and their immersion in real-world data projects that include interactive visualization and real-time data.

Keynote speaker Stephen Few, a recognized leader in data visualization with 20 years experience as an innovator, consultant and educator, will take center stage to discuss his popular practical guides for creating information-rich visualizations.

Workshop attendees in the afternoon session will have the option of attending concurrent hands-on sessions using leading business intelligence/data visualization tools.  Experts from major business intelligence software companies (Tableau, Spotfire and JMP) will lead interactive sessions to demonstrate how their software works. Tableau Software and Spotfire are sponsoring the workshop.

“Participants will be able to gain first-hand experience to see how these tools might take your visualization efforts to the next level,” says Professor Jeff Camm, director of the Center for Business Analytics.
