Master of Science in Business Analytics

program in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business a Top 20 program in North America – and one of only eight business schools in the country to earn the honor.

The program, says Professor Jeff Camm, head of the Department of Operations Management, Business Analytics and Information Systems (OBAIS), has had a long tradition of excellence, one that InformationWeek says is among “the elite few that will help close the big-data talent gap aimed at analysis of data in a business context.”

“The strength of our faculty and our students and incredible career placement in this program have put the Lindner College of Business out in front of many other business schools who are now scrambling to get into analytics,” Camm says.

The honor, Camm says, follows several faculty highlights and the creation of the UC

Center for Business Analytics

in 2012 that brings together companies, students and faculty for real-world data analysis projects.

named David Rogers, associate professor of OBAIS in the Lindner College of Business, among the Top 22 business professors in Ohio. Rogers was also the 2012 recipient of INFORMS Prize for the Teaching of the OR/MS Practice. Also, OBAIS Professor Jim Evans has published more than 20 textbooks, including one that is among the first in the field of business analytics. 

As the field grows and demand for professionals with business analytical and IT skills increases, so does enrollment in the Lindner program. The UC MS in Business Analytics program welcomed its largest ever class in the fall of 2012 with students learning probability, applied statistics, predictive modeling, optimization and simulation. Electives in data visualization, data mining, forecasting and experimental design are complemented by business core knowledge to create graduates who are in high demand in industry.

The MS Business Analytics program has had virtually 100 percent job placement over the past few years, with students landing positions in major corporations across the globe, including IBM, P&G, HP, Great American Insurance and dunnhumbyUSA, among others.

Camm says the program is heavily invested in experiential learning. “Our students graduate having worked on real projects with real data,” he says.
