Financial Savvy Nets Lindner Graduate Business Students a Win in CFA Research Challenge

Five graduate students in the

Master of Science in Finance

program in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business put their financial skills to the test to win the local CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute Research Challenge held in February at the Savannah Center in West Chester.

Team members Michael Delisio, Andreas Galliker, Sam Siferd, Molly Chen and Yuzhen Zhou presented the best financial analysis to overcome teams from Ohio State University, Xavier University, Miami University, Dayton University, Northern Kentucky University and Ohio Wesleyan.

The group, overseen by

Michael Neugent

, assistant professor and director of the MS-Finance program at the Lindner College of Business, presented an in-depth financial analysis of Meridian Bioscience Inc., a Cincinnati-based publicly traded company. The analysis contained a buy/sell recommendation on the firm that also included a target price.

Judges selected the Lindner College of Business team as winners because of the team’s written report, robust sensitivity analysis and presentation.

The team will now advance to the next level to compete in Toronto on March 20 and 21 against colleges from North and South America. Last year, the competition drew more than 3,000 students from 650 universities in 55 countries. The winner from the Toronto round will then compete in April at global finals in London.
