Cincinnati Reds Owner Bob Castellini to be Honored by the University of Cincinnati
Robert Bob Castellini, chairman of the Castellini Group of Companies and CEO and principal owner of the Cincinnati Reds, will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science at the
University of Cincinnati Commencement Ceremony at 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 27, in Fifth Third Arena.
The honorary degree represents the highest award from the University of Cincinnati.
Castellini has been chairman of the Castellini Group of Companies since 1992, following tenures as executive vice president, president and CEO.
Founded in 1896 on the original Cincinnati produce terminal market, the Castellini Company is one of the oldest establishments in the produce industry. The Castellini group of businesses includes perishable distribution, food processing, public warehousing, transportation logistics and leasing.
Castellini joined the company in 1963, after graduating with a bachelors degree in economics from Georgetown University. He earned his MBA from the Wharton Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1967.
Castellini became chief executive officer of the Cincinnati Reds in 2006 and has been involved in Major League Baseball for almost 30 years.
Castellini is chairman and president of the Castellini Foundation, chairman of the Joint Banks Steering Committee, a member of the board of directors of 3CDC, past chairman of the board of directors of the Cincinnati Zoo, and a member and past-president of the Cincinnati Commercial Club, the Queen City Club and the Cincinnati Business Committee. His wife, Susan, is a member of the College of Medicine Community Advisory Board and Lindner Center of HOPE High Hopes Auxiliary.
His support of UC has spanned education, medicine and athletics. He is a member of the UC Charles McMicken Society, Friends of Neuroscience and Medical Center Fund Board, and has supported the Economics Education Fund, UCATS Fund-Football, the College-Conservatory of Music and UC Cancer Programs Fund, among others.
Castellini was named a Great Living Cincinnatian in 2012 by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber and is the recipient of numerous awards including the Distinguished Service Citation from the National Conference of Community and Justice, the Centennial Human Relations Award from the American Jewish Committee and the Tocqueville Award from the United Way of Greater Cincinnati for outstanding service as a volunteer in the community.
