Enjoy a Free Guitar Concert Sponsored by UC's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Cincinnati presents a free concert featuring classical guitarists Robert Brown and Christopher Hubbard at

2 p.m., Sunday, April 21

, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

The lively program will include 16th-century English tunes, Latin American music, and American jazz standards. This concert is free and open to the public. No reservations are needed. A reception to meet the musicians follows the program.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is located at 7701 Kenwood Road, just north of Montgomery Road.

Originally from Springfield, Ohio, Robert Brown won scholarships in his formative years to study with Clare Callahan at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and with Robert Guthrie at Southern Methodist University. During these years, he earned a number of awards in international guitar competitions, most notably first prize at the Portland International Solo Guitar Competition in 1994.

Brown has performed concerts on three continents as a soloist and currently resides in Cincinnati, where he serves as adjunct professor of guitar at the College of Mount St. Joseph and teaches guitar at St. Ursula Academy.

Founding president of the Greater Cincinnati Guitar Society, Christopher Hubbard has taught guitar at Sinclair Community College, Cincinnati Christian University, University of  Rio Grande and Marshall University. He performs regularly as a featured concert artist and in various venues in both solo and ensemble formats. Hubbard received his master’s in guitar performance from Marshall University, where he studied with Leo Welch, held a teaching assistantship and was awarded the Shirley Turley performance award. He holds a bachelor’s degree in guitar performance from Florida State University, where he studied under renowned pedagogue Bruce Holzman.
