Proposal to Create UNESCO Co-Chairs in Water Access and Sustainability Accepted
Only 29 water chair appointments have been made around the world by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization).
Lets add one more to that list.
The objectives of this position are to develop training materials, perform research and create activities around campus in relation to the development and governance of water resources.
McMicken College of Arts & Sciences former Women's Studies Professor and current Sociology Professor Adrian Parr currently serves as the Chair of Taft Faculty and the Taft Research Center. She will be teaching an Honors class this fall in relation to the UNESCO appointment on water justice where the students will be traveling to the Maya Riviera as part of the class.
Dion Dionysiou is a professor of environmental engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. His classes and research align with the UNESCO proposal in the areas of drinking water quality and treatment, water reuse, and physical-chemical processes for water quality control. Dionysiou is the author or co-author of more than 120 refereed journal publications, 85 conference proceedings, eight book chapter publications, and more than 350 presentations.
