UC Academic Internship Program Student Premieres Video on Fountain Square

On October 3, 2013, the “

I’m a Better Person for It

” video produced by University of Cincinnati Academic Internship Program student Neal Patrick premiered on Fountain Square’s LED (light-emitting diode) jumbo-tron.

Patrick, a psychology student in UC's McMicken College of Arts & Sciences, was selected as Social Venture Partner’s (SVP) summer UC student intern and Charitable Words Scholar.

Patrick was challenged to learn and understand the story of SVP and then tell SVP’s story in a creative and visual way. His goal was to create a video that if shown on the jumbo-tron and the narrative could not be heard, the images themselves would be so compelling that viewers would be motivated to learn more about SVP as an organization.

Patrick had the opportunity to collaborate with SVP Partners Bruce Hager, Tom Callinan and Patrick Points to interview SVP partners, photograph activities at the various SVP nonprofit organizations, draft a storyboard, and create graphics to produce a 2:45 minute video for Social Venture Partner’s

open enrollment for new partners.

Patrick hopes that this video will get SVP’s message out to the community and get more people involved.  “I am satisfied with the outcome of this video, and I hope it helps to bring in many new partners to the organization.”

UC’s Academic Internship Program, allowed Patrick to learn about a field of interest through observation and direct participation. He is grateful for the opportunity to work alongside a diverse group of professionals who bring a positive energy to the Cincinnati community.

UC alum credits journalism program with early success

June 26, 2024

Zachary Jarrell came to the University of Cincinnati in 2019 to pursue a degree in statistics. In 2023, he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Journalism. For many undergraduates, the journey through college rarely takes the expected track. Detours happen, and majors change. When plans switch up, it can be helpful to a student’s success to find support. For Jarrell, it was the people he worked alongside in the journalism department who helped him on his journey. It has left a lasting impression on his life so far, guiding him to multiple internships as an undergraduate, real-world experience in prominent news outlets, and eventually a successful career in the highly competitive field of journalism.
