UC Clermont Hosts Evening with Retired NASA Astronaut Rick Searfoss
UC Clermont College will host an evening with retired USAF Col. Rick Searfoss, a former NASA astronaut and space shuttle commander, on Friday, Dec. 6, in the Student Activities Center. The event is being sponsored by Duke Energy.
Col. Searfoss will be traveling to UC Clermont College to interact with the Space and Aviation STEM academy students. Following his visit with the students, he will make a presentation to the public.
Searfoss piloted two space shuttle missions and commanded a third, with more than 939 hours in space and 5,400 hours flying time in 61 different types of aircraft. His first space flight in 1993 set the record for the longest duration space shuttle mission. In 1996 he piloted Atlantis to the Russian space station Mir.
Duke Energy appreciates the opportunity to support this fantastic program. UC Clermont has found a way to creatively bring STEM to life and present a unique opportunity for our community. It highlights Dukes ongoing support and UC Clermonts commitment to delivering programs that support student interest in STEM fields, said Duke Energy District Manager of Community and Government Relations Warren Walker. STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and math.
This event is free and open to the community.
