Got 60 seconds? Win $1,000 in UC Innovation Competition

Think you have the next big invention? Pitch it before a judge in 60-90 seconds for a chance to win as much as $1,000.

The Center for Entrepreneurship Education and Research at the University of Cincinnati’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business is hosting the second annual Innovation Quest Elevator Pitch (IQ E-Pitch).

“For any UC student who ever dreamed of bringing a new product or service to life and learning more about business ventures and investments, the IQ E-Pitch could be their chance,” says Catalin Macarie, assistant professor-educator of management, Lindner College of Business. He and professor Thomas Dalziel, director of UC’s Center for Entrepreneurship, are overseeing the event.

The April 9 competition — open to all UC undergraduates and graduate students — will be 6-9 p.m. at UC’s Tangeman University Center Great Hall, Room 465. Registration is required by April 3 and can be made by visiting the

IQ E-Pitch website

, where competition rules can be found.

Up for grabs are cash prizes courtesy of sponsors Target and Capacity Energy Solutions for both undergraduate and graduate levels: $1,000 grand prize, $500 second-place prize and $250 third-place prize. Teams or individuals who do not qualify for a cash prize could qualify for other (sur)prizes, Macarie says.

Students will have the opportunity to present their ideas to a panel of judges who come from varied business backgrounds, including investors, executives, start-up coaches and prominent entrepreneurs.

“The University of Cincinnati is poised to take a leadership position in building momentum toward creating a community that attracts and supports entrepreneurs,” Macarie says. “We have a great opportunity to put our energy behind the next generation of successful Cincinnati business leaders.”
