In eLearning Ecosystem Naming Contest, See the Top Five that Didn t Make the Top Five

Some were educational. Some were difficult to pronounce. And some were spicy.

The Blackboard Communications team received more than 500 names during the eLearning ecosystem naming contest submission period, and narrowing them down was no easy task. Only five advanced to the next level, so the Blackboard Communications Team wanted to pay tribute to some of the most memorable submissions that didn’t make the final cut.

Here they are, including their explanations, in no particular order:

  • Popcorn Pack – “Bearcats apparently smell like popcorn, and a pack of Bearcats will be using this ecosystem.”

  • Clowder – “A clowder is word for a group of cats, and this website is for a group of Bearcats to come together to collaborate and achieve goals.”

  • Kallipolis – “The term kallipolis is taken from the literary classic Plato's Republic. The term is used to refer to what is described as the ‘ideal’ city or polis. The kallipolis is the true republic, and home of the philosopher-kings. Within this polis everything and everyone has his/her role to play. While it is inspiring, the Catch-22 is that the kallipolis cannot exist without the philosopher-kings and the philosopher-kings can't exist without the kallipolis. Taking that into consideration, in a way, the eLearning community cannot exist without the students and the students cannot achieve their full potential without the eLearning environment. Thus, the eLearning environment functions as a digital kallipolis.

  • Ganze – “Ganze is German for whole or all, representing the connectivity of the UC community and learning tools while also paying homage to Cincinnati's largely Germanic heritage.”

  • Guadalupe – “It sounds spicy.”

Check out the names that advanced to the final round, and cast your vote for a chance to win UC gear! The winner will be announced at the Connecting the Dots event 1-3 p.m., March 27 in Tangeman University Center Great Hall.
