UC Communication Professor Receives Grant for Project Aiming to Reduce HIV Transmission

Professor of communication Stephen Haas’ UC University Research Council Grant Proposal was recently selected for funding at the maximum request amount, a total of $25,000.

The project, titled “Empowering Decision-Making in Sexual Partner Selection to Reduce HIV Transmission,” will be conducted through collaboration between Haas and Michael Lyons, director of the Early Intervention HIV Program for UC’s College of Medicine.

Through the project, Haas and Lyons hope to find a solution for HIV prevention that involves: 1) assessing interpersonal strategies to aid communication among sexual partners that will reduce the spread of HIV, and 2) implementation of evolving trends in technology that empower patients by providing access to one’s own health information.

Haas plans to use the grant to collect data over the summer for a larger National Institute of Health Grant Application.
