arena. Soon professor Mike Magazine will be a star on the silver screen.

Magazine, professor of operations and business analytics at UC’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business, landed a cameo role in the upcoming Cate Blanchett movie "Carol." Blanchett will be in Cincinnati as the film begins production March 13, and Magazine, an Ohio Eminent Scholar, will be among the many movie extras.

Set in 1952, Blanchett (a two-time Oscar winner) stars as a married New Yorker pursued by a younger department store clerk (2010 Oscar nominee Rooney Mara). Director Todd Haynes will use more than 50 Cincinnati locations over the next seven weeks, with most of them being shot downtown.

Magazine, a native New Yorker, has the dialect but is uncertain whether his appearance in several scenes will have any speaking lines. Last week he attended a fitting at a Cincinnati studio for a vintage suit, overcoat, hat and stylish haircut. “They told me they liked my New York accent,” he says, but he’s unsure what his role or his three days of filming will encompass.
