Panel Discussion to Focus on 'Hydraulic Fracturing: Regulatory and Environmental Issues'

The UC Law Democrats and Environmental Law Club will co-host the panel discussion “Hydraulic Fracturing: Regulatory and Environmental Issues” at 12:15 p.m., Thursday, April 17, at the University of Cincinnati College of Law in Room 114. The discussion will focus on regulations surrounding hydraulic fracturing, the energy advantages of this method of gas extraction and potential environmental issues.

Participants include:

• Amy Townsend-Small, a UC professor of biogeochemistry who has done research on the impacts of hydraulic fracturing on water quality;
• Thomas Stewart, executive vice president of the Ohio Oil and Gas Association;
• Professor James O’Reilly, a UC law professor who has published books and articles on regulatory issues with hydraulic fracturing and has been involved in supporting stronger regulations in the public sphere; and, 
• Dean Emeritus Joseph Tomain, who has written numerous articles and books about energy policy, will serve as moderator.
