World Piano Competition Returns to CCM Village

In partnership with CCM and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the World Piano Competition brings the world’s finest pianists to the Queen City

June 23 – 28, 2014

. All competition performances take place in CCM’s stunning Corbett Auditorium.

The competition features 24 pianists from seven countries with the first rounds beginning Monday, June 23. The competition continues throughout the week and concludes on Saturday, June 28. The final round of performances will feature the world-renowned CSO.

New to the competition this year, the first round requires competitors to choose from a selection of

American repertoire

. Each of the 24 competitors will perform at least nine minutes of American rep from composers such as John Corigliano, Aaron Jay Kernis and David Rakowski.

  • The first rounds, June 23 and 24, will determine the six semifinalists.
  • The semifinalists rounds, June 25 and 26, will allow each of the six semifinalists to perform a 60-minute solo recital of their choosing.
  • Chosen finalists will rehearse with the CSO on June 27 in preparation for the final round of the competition on June 28.

Following the final round of performances, an awards ceremony will be held to announce the

The world’s best come to Cincinnati during the 2014 World Piano Competition, hosted by UC’s College-Conservatory of Music and featuring the world-renowned Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

World Piano Competition Opening Rounds

During the competition’s opening rounds, 24 pianists from seven countries will each perform for 36-40 minutes. New for 2014, the first round of the competition includes a requirement for contemporary American repertoire.
