A Math Grad's Delight: UC Commencement by the Numbers
Take a by-the-numbers look at the more than 2,000 students who have applied to graduate at the University of Cincinnati's Summer Commencement 2014, according to the Office of Institutional Research.
TYPE OF DEGREE
For the first time in 35 years, all levels of degrees will be given at the August Commencement. The class of August 2014 includes 2,039 students eligible to graduate. They are earning:
- 245 associate degrees
- 747 bachelor's degrees
- 939 master's degrees
- 134 doctoral degrees
- Total: 2,065 (some students earn multiple degrees)
GEOGRAPHIC BREAKDOWN
- 57 countries are represented, including the U.S.
- 48 states are represented.
- 1,023 graduates are from Ohio, representing 62 counties and accounting for 59 percent of graduates.
- 64 graduates are from Cincinnati Public Schools.
- 507 graduates transferred to UC as undergraduates.
- 412 graduates transitioned to UC's Uptown Campus from the regional campuses UC Blue Ash College and Clermont College.
- 559 students graduated from a distance-learning program, and 1,579 graduates took at least one distance-learning course.
GENDER RATIO
- Female: 58 percent
- Male: 42 percent
AGE RANGE
- Overall youngest graduate: 18 years old (associate degree)
- Youngest bachelor's degree recipient: 19
- Overall oldest graduate: 70 (doctoral degree)
- Average age of graduates: 29.4
ETHNICITIES
Minorities accounted for 16.5 percent (337 students) of this summer's graduates.
- Asian: 3.6 percent
- Black: 8.5 percent
- Hispanic: 2.4 percent
- Multi-racial: 1.6 percent
- Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander race: 0.1 percent
- White: 63.3 percent
INSTITUTIONAL AID

- 1,306 graduates received some form of institutional aid (64.1 percent).
STEMM DEGREES
- 1,050 graduates are in the science, technology, engineering, math or medical fields.
VETERANS
- 86 graduates are registered with Veterans Programs & Services.
FIRST GENERATION
- 208 graduates are first-generation college students.
HONORS
- Summa cum laude (grade point average between 3.9 and a perfect 4.0): 19
- Magna cum laude (GPA between 3.75 and 3.8999): 45
- Cum laude (GPA between 3.6 and 3.74999): 62
