Poster for UC s DAAPworks 2014 Wins Gold from Prestigious International Design Journal

Seniors and graduate students in the University of Cincinnati’s top-ranked College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) traditionally display their best efforts in capstone projects. These projects are annually exhibited to the public during DAAPworks, the end-of-spring term show throughout the college’s studios and hallways.

Another tradition that is part of DAAPworks is the creation of each year’s original DAAPworks poster by college alumni. Past designers of the poster have included luminaries such as architect Michael Graves and graphic designer Michael Bierut.

The designers of the 2014 DAAPworks poster were DAAP alums currently with Landor Associates, a prestigious global brand consulting and design firm headquartered in San Francisco but with offices worldwide, including in Cincinnati. And DAAP alums located in the Cincinnati office, led by Valerie Aurilio, executive creative director, just won a

“Gold”

for their 2014 design from Graphis, a prestigious international design journal. The designs created by Landor for DAAPworks made use of students' images of student work.

According to Aurilio, “The work for DAAP represented the best of our creative team and the impact that design and designers can have, especially when inspired by a client that loves design, appreciates the power of design and provided us creative freedom.”

She added that the winning design was also inspired by the deep understanding that the designers had of DAAP, as alums who had come out of the programs housed at UC: “The design, consisting of clear, acrylic letters spelling out DAAP, was directly inspired by the fact that we had received our design foundation at DAAP. While DAAP is the foundation for later design careers, each student experience is unique since it’s up to the students what they make of that formative experience. While the foundation might be the bedrock, we grow from it differently.”
