Provost Fellows Will Lead Efforts on Honors, Faculty Satisfaction Survey

As part of her faculty and leadership development initiatives, Senior Vice President and Provost Beverly Davenport announced the creation of the Provost Fellows Program, set to launch early next year. 

Provost Fellows provide an opportunity for faculty members who want to learn more about the University’s administration to get an up-close look as they spearhead important work around campus. 

 “We have an outstanding faculty, and I want to be sure we are working closely with them to address key issues in the university’s future,” Davenport said. “I learned so much by being a Provost Fellow at Virginia Tech, and I want to offer UC faculty the same kind of opportunities to expand their horizons right here on campus.” 

In 2015, Provost Fellows will assist with work focusing on: 

• The analysis and interpretation of data from the COACHE (Cooperative on Academic Careers in Higher Education) faculty satisfaction survey, OR
  
• The University Honors Program. 

Provost Fellows will spend half time in the provost’s office for one year where they will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and gain an overview of the university administrative processes. In addition to the topics targeted by Fellow positions available in 2015, future Fellows may be involved with the new cluster hiring initiative, faculty development, student success, international affairs and other new and on-going programs in the provost’s office. 

Ideally, Provost Fellows are tenured at the rank of professor. 

The provost will sponsor up to two faculty members each year to lead special projects by reimbursing the Fellow’s department for 50 percent of their academic year salary. In addition, the provost will provide two months’ summer salary to each Fellow.
