The Freeman Foundation Awards UC's ProPEL $400,000

The Division of Professional Practice and Experiential Learning (ProPEL)

is excited to announce that it is the recipient of $400,000 from The Freeman Foundation to support East Asian Co-ops and Internships in Singapore and Hong Kong.

The Freeman Foundation is a private organization whose primary objective is strengthening the bonds of friendship between the United States and countries of East Asia.  The foundation funds educational activities that develop a greater appreciation of Asian cultures, histories and economies in the United States and a better understanding of the American people and of American institutions and purposes by the people of East Asia.

ProPEL’s

The Singapore Experience

and

The Hong Kong Experience

are the two programs supported by this grant. The experiential learning programs are semester-long, unpaid international co-op and internship opportunities open to all UC undergraduate students. Students participating in the experience earn academic credit for their full-time, semester-long, academic internship or co-op.

ProPEL works collaboratively with the

Academic Internship Council (AIC)

and the

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE)

to offer The Singapore Experience and The Hong Kong Experience to University of Cincinnati undergraduate students. The partnership provides students with full-time professional work experience, personalized job placement, furnished housing, professional development, networking opportunities, cultural enrichment, recreational activities and 24 hour emergency support.

Through The Freeman Foundation grant funding, 79 students have been able to participate in The Singapore Experience since its establishment in the spring of 2013. The Hong Kong Experience, established summer 2015, had four inaugural student participants. The students are representative of six colleges and 26 majors across the university campus.
