Information Security Awareness Week: Learn How to Protect Your Identity, Finances

Every October, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security sponsors National Cyber Security Awareness Month, a month dedicated to create a safe, secure and resilient cyber environment.

Since 2009, the IT@UC Office of Information Security (OIS) has held an Information Security Awareness Week (ISAW), as a way to participate in National Cyber Security Awareness Month and spread awareness to the university community.

Mark your calendar for these events!

  • Monday, Oct. 26: Personal Security - Learn about topics such as Wi-Fi safety, mobile device safety, traveling guidelines and encryption tips; 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., third floor of Tangeman University Center (TUC).
  • Tuesday, Oct. 27: Social Engineering - Recognize how to spot phishing messages and how to better protect yourself from them; 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., third floor of TUC.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 28: Social Media Safety - Get social media safety tips; 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., third floor of TUC.
  • Thursday, Oct. 29: Campus Shred Event - Join our popular campus shred as we securely destroy and dispose sensitive documents on McMicken Commons; 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. (or until the truck is full), .
