Hoxworth Announces Critical Need for Blood Donors

The University of Cincinnati's Hoxworth Blood Center has issued an immediate need for blood donors of all types and a critical need for type O-negative donors.

Sluggish donations due to illness and inclement weather have contributed to a sharp drop in the local blood inventory, Hoxworth officials said. Donors are needed to maintain a readily available blood supply at 30 area hospitals.

The current blood supply is below optimum levels among four key blood types:

  • O- 27 percent below
  • O+ 10 percent below
  • A+ 21 percent below
  • B- 16 percent below

Donate at one of eight donor centers throughout Greater Cincinnati or find a blood drive near you.  Donating is safe, convenient and takes about an hour. Additional donation options are available that can take more time but provide greater benefit to patients. To schedule an appointment or learn more, individuals can call 513-451-0910 or visit hoxworth.org.
