Emergency Appeal for Type O Donors
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is releasing an emergency appeal for
Type O
blood. All eligible individuals are being asked to donate blood immediately, especially type O negative donors as there is a critical need for this particular blood type.
The supply of Type O blood in the Tri-State has plummeted. O Negative supplies are 41 percent below levels considered necessary to meet daily and emergency needs, said Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokesperson. The situation is considered critical.
O Negative is the universal donor type and can be given to any patient in need
, but only 6 percent of the population has O Negative blood.
Hoxworth is always in need of lifesaving blood. Schedule an appointment by calling (513) 451-0910 or visit
