UC and University of Bordeaux Launch Collaborative Aero-System Operations Degree Program

At the Farnborough International Airshow taking place this week, the unique dual enrollment program, centered on the University of Cincinnati master's of engineering degree and the University of Bordeaux international university diploma, will be announced. This announcement follows the agreement signing in Bordeaux by University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) Dean, Teik C. Lim and University of Bordeaux (UBx) President Manuel Tunon de Lara.

Under this new agreement, as of September 2017, students may concurrently pursue and graduate with both a UC master's of engineering degree and a UBx international university diploma in aero-systems operations (AESOP). The one-year program brings together UBx expertise in aeronautical maintenance and operations with UC expertise in aerospace propulsion and systems, as well as excellence in interdisciplinary research from both universities.

Students will follow their fall semester in Cincinnati and their spring semester in Bordeaux to obtain an experiential-based, personalized degree. As graduates, they will be skilled engineers with a wide-range of professional capabilities ready to excel within the realm of aircraft design and life-cycle management.

As one of the UC-UBx flagship collaboration projects, AESOP was originally part of a larger institutional vision spearheaded by a UC delegation to UBx led by UC Interim President Beverly Davenport in fall 2015.

Our universities wanted to provide this aeronautics opportunity to engineering students around the world and both institutions have worked diligently to make it a reality. Seeing AESOP come to fruition only further affirms that, together, we will stimulate ongoing innovation,” said Davenport.

Farnborough is a biennial event combining a major trade exhibition for the aerospace and defense industries with a public airshow. In 2014, it welcomed over 100,000 visitors (representing 53 countries) and exhibitors from 39 countries. In 2016, a 71 percent international participation is expected.
