UC Blood Drive Saves 2,130 Lives

Students, faculty and staff at the University of Cincinnati helped save hundreds of lives during the UC all-campus blood drive, hosted by Hoxworth Blood Center.

The winter blood drive, which took place Nov. 28-Dec. 2 in Tangeman University Center, resulted in 864 registered blood donors and 710 collected blood products.

“Time and time again, the University of Cincinnati community has shown a commitment to enhancing our area’s blood supply. The results of this drive were no different,” said Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokesperson. “Hoxworth had just issued a critical appeal for blood products when this drive began, and with the help of the Bearcat nation, we were able to significantly improve our blood supply.”

Lipton also noted that the need for blood continues, especially during the holidays. The blood products collected from blood drives and neighborhood donor centers are used in 30 hospitals in the Tri-State area.

The next UC all-campus blood drive is scheduled for Jan. 30-Feb. 3, 2017, in Tangeman University Center.

Hoxworth Blood Center is always in need of lifesaving blood. Schedule an appointment by calling 513-451-0910 or visiting www.hoxworth.org.
