Communiversity, UC College of Medicine Partner to Offer Free Research Study Class

More and more, we find medical research requiring the public to join research studies based on symptoms or diagnosis. During this

free

course, Victoria Straughn, clinical research coordinator for the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, will review the history and ethics in research to help you understand good clinical practice; the differences in anonymous versus confidential research studies; the consent form and all elements of the consent process; and the role of the clinical assistant. You will gain a better understanding of how research is conducted, as well as, risks, benefits, and other important precautions to consider before joining a research study.  

Victoria Straughn is a Certified Medical Assistant & Phlebotomist. As a research coordinator for the Center for Environmental Genetics, she provides ongoing assistance and support to the Community Outreach Engagement Core, the Clinical & Translational Science & Training and the Integrative Health Science Facilities Core responsible for coordinating educational programs to improve the relationship between researchers and community.

Victoria is also responsible for maintaining the database for the Breast Cancer Registry of Greater Cincinnati, review strategies for recruitment, consent and enroll participants, assist in protocol development, experienced in adult & pediatric blood collections, aliquot, cryo-storage inventory and shipping of bio-samples, provide data for grant submissions and year end progress reports, maintain site files, approval letters, investigator brochures and newsletters, follow IRB approved protocols and observe Good Clinical practice guidelines and provides support to directors, colleagues and junior staff in research related task.
