Campus Blood Drive Recap: Donations Help Save More than 2,000 Lives

The University of Cincinnati community helped save hundreds of lives in the tri-state area by donating blood at the UC all-campus blood drive, hosted by Hoxworth Blood Center.

The first UC blood drive of 2017, which took place Jan. 30 through Feb. 3 in Tangeman University Center, resulted in 858 registered blood donors and 694 collected blood products. The drive brought in 170 first time donors. Each unit of blood can help to save up to three lives. Therefore, the UC blood drive helped  to save over 2,000 lives.

“When blood donations are low, we can always count on the University of Cincinnati Bearcats to come together and stabilize our blood supply,” said Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokesperson. “We are thrilled with the outcome of this drive and hope that our UC donors will continue to donate at future all-campus blood drives.”

Lipton added that donating blood is a true act of community service, as the blood and platelets collected from UC drives are used to help patients in 31 hospitals in the tri-state area.

The next University of Cincinnati blood drive is scheduled for April 11-14. All donors at this drive will receive a $7 Skyline Chili Gift Card.

Hoxworth Blood Center is always in need of lifesaving blood. Schedule an appointment by calling (513) 451-0910 or visit www.hoxworth.org.
