Four Awards Sponsored for UCScienceNet Expansion

The Office of the Vice President for Research and UC Information Technologies jointly sponsored an expansion of the National Science Foundation-funded (NSF) UCScienceNet (UCSN). UCSN is UC’s high-speed, friction free, research-dedicated network. These awards are designed to increase end-to-end, high volume data transfer capabilities among researchers to accelerate scientific discovery and enhance knowledge creation.

“We look forward to the continuing growth and investment in 21st century research partnerships and the technology needed to enhance research capabilities,” said Nelson Vincent, Vice President for Information Technology and CIO.

Awardees will work closely with UCIT’s Brett Kottmann, the NSF-funded Cyberinfrastructure Engineer and Educator, to construct and enhance their UCSN connections and data transfers.

“These awards will enable a broad spectrum of investigators to accelerate and extend their existing research to create new opportunities for collaboration and education,” said Vice President for Research, Patrick Limbach.

The expansion sponsorship awardees are:

  • College of Medicine: Mario Medvedovic, PhD, (Division of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Department of Environmental Health) for his proposal, “Big Data To Knowledge (BD2K) Resources at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.”
  • College of Arts & Sciences: Richard Beck, PhD, (Department of Geography); Emily Kang, PhD, (Department of Mathematical Sciences) and Hongxing Liu, PhD, (Department of Geography) for their proposal, “Data Transfer and Interdisciplinary Collaboration within UC – Remote Sensing collaborative research between UC Geography and UC Mathematics”.
  • College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services: Jacinda K. Dariotis, PhD, MAS, MA, (Evaluation Services Center) and Brian Verkamp, MBA, (Innovative Teaching & Learning) for their proposal, “Building Bridges for Data Transfer, Data Harmonization, Multisite Transdisciplinary Collaborations, and Data Resource Core Leadership.” This award will sponsor a collaborative effort between the college’s Data Analytics Working Group and the Office of Innovative Technology.
