UC Clermont's Business Information Technology Degree is Offered Online
UC Clermont is a popular choice for students looking for earn degrees close to home but now, those interested in Business Information Technology wont have to travel any further than their laptops. The associate degree is now offered completely online.
This program will meet busy students where they are. Its 100 percent online, said Andy Curran, academic coordinator for the program, which he believes will particularly appeal to non-traditional students who work full time and have family and other obligations that make getting to a physical campus a challenge. Now, they never have to set foot on campus.
Making the move to an entirely online degree also makes the program which started at UC Clermont in the 1980s available to more potential students, no matter where they live, and prepares them for a virtual workplace. The modern workplace reality is that a lot of people work remotely, and more positions are moving that way, Curran said. By taking courses remotely, it gives students secondary job training. They'll understand how to work from a remote location, which will make them more marketable to employers.
In addition to the online format, the Business Information Technology Program curriculum which provides a strong business foundation for students is also being updated and revamped to better address the skills needed by todays employers. For instance, courses on social and digital media such as video editing have been added in response to companys increased need for employees who understand those online realms. Many smaller companies cant hire a full social media staff, but they need someone who understands Twitter and Facebook and can successfully manage their accounts to interact with customers, Curran said. These courses will teach the software, information, and media skills that really broaden students job prospects.
Overall, the curriculum changes and the convenience of earning the degree online only add to the flexibility and universal appeal of the program, Curran said, which has long prepared students for a wide variety of administrative positions, from office managers to information specialists and everything in between. The skills our students learn are contemporary, geared for today's workplace, and prepare them for positions in almost any company, Curran said. Its the ultimate flexible program.
