Communiversity Class Discusses Medical Marijuana with Health Care Professionals

Although, on June 8, 2016, Governor Kasich signed into law HB 523 which legalized medical marijuana for approved medical conditions, the program will not be fully operational until September 8, 2018. This leaves many of us with questions like: What are the qualifying medical conditions; which doctors will be allowed to recommend cannabis; who will monitor the growers and dispensaries; what are the potential side effects or drug interactions with marijuana; and many other safety concerns for patients and caregivers.

Communiversity is offering a unique opportunity to discuss these questions and concerns with a local clinical pharmacist and award-winning author, Dr. Cathy Rosenbaum.

Dr. Rosenbaum is a holistic clinical pharmacist, certified health coach, and the founder and CEO of a consulting practice in holistic health and wellness, Rx Integrative Solutions, located in Blue Ash, Ohio. She is a member of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists, the Blue Ash Cancer Support Center Professional Advisory Board and the Professional Editorial Board for Pharmacy Practice News. Dr. Rosenbaum is the recipient of the 2016 Comprehensive Healthcare Leadership Award sponsored by Venue Magazine in Cincinnati. In 2015, she published her first award-winning book, "Don’t Sweep It Under the Drug! Integrating Evidence-Based Body Mind & Spiritual Practices into Your Health & Wellness Tool Kit."

In this class, Dr. Rosenbaum will review the history and legal landscape for medical marijuana in Ohio and the U.S. She will discuss the pharmacological mechanisms of action for the two main cannabis constituents, THC and CBD. Dr. Rosenbaum will list the 21 indications for use in Ohio; various routes of administration; and describe the role of the physician, pharmacist and nurse in managing medical marijuana in Ohio.
