UC's Roger Guard to Lead Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries

Roger Guard, assistant senior vice president for Academic Information Technology & Libraries, and associate dean, University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine, is president of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL).  Elected last year as the vice-president/president-elect, Guard assumed his role as president in November.

During Guard's tenure, AAHSL will publish its report Building on Success: Charting the Future of Knowledge Management within the Academic Health Center, a work several years in the making.

The report focuses on the areas that make a significant difference to the bottom line: recruitment, patient care, research competitiveness, and community outreach.

"This is an exciting time in AAHSL's history," said Guard.  "Building on Success is the most important publication by AAHSL since 1987's Challenge to Action.  It will help leaders of academic health centers to understand the critical importance of information services and knowledge management to their centers' success."

The AAHSL consists of the libraries serving the 142 accredited U.S. and Canadian medical schools that belong to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).  AAHSL's goals are to promote excellence in academic health sciences libraries and to ensure that the next generation of health care practitioners is trained in information-seeking skills that enhance the quality of health care delivery, education, and research.  AAHSL was founded in 1977 and is a member of the Council of Academic Societies of AAMC.
