Med Center Announces 2004 Gold And Silver Apple Awards

Bruce Giffin, PhD, field service professor in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy has been nominated by first-year medical students to receive the UC College of Medicine's Gold Apple Award.

Donald Lowrie, PhD, field service assistant professor in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy, and John Quinlan, MD, associate professor in the Department of Neurology, were nominated for Silver Apples.

Students select Gold and Silver Apple winners to honor professors who have had the most profound effect on their futures in medicine and in life.

Established in 1968 by the Pi Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, the awards help foster better student-faculty relations and symbolize the ongoing commitment of the College of Medicine and its faculty to excellence in education.

The awards will be presented at the College of Medicine's Student Clinician dinner July 1. Dr. Giffin, who will also receive a check for $2,500, last year won a Gold Apple from the second-year medical students and a Silver Apple from the first-year medical students.
