Homeland Security Expert to Speak at Biodefense Symposium

Penrose Albright, PhD, assistant director of homeland security, will make the keynote presentation Friday at a two-day biodefense symposium.

Dr. Albright will present "Working in Synergy: A Unified Effort" at 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29, at the Shriners Auditorium, 217 William Howard Taft.

The symposium, titled Perspectives on Biodefense: Science, Politics and Practice, features regional and national experts on critical biothreat agents, communicating threat, environmental defense, and biological sensors and detectors.

Dr. Albright, who has been involved in national security since 1986, was named to his current post in the Department of Homeland Security in October 2003. Previously, he served as the senior advisor to the department's Science and Technology Directorate.

Additional sessions feature speakers from the U.S. EPA, U.S. Army, Food and Drug Administration, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Cincinnati Health Department, Hamilton County General Health District and various universities.
