Bearcat Basketball Halftime Ceremony Honors UC Recipient of "American Nobel"

Dr. Elwood Jensen’s research led to a discovery that transformed the treatment of breast cancer patients and saves more than 100,000 lives each year. UC’s second recipient of the Lasker Award, known as the “American Nobel,” will be honored at a special halftime ceremony at the UC/Houston men’s basketball game Saturday, Jan. 29, at Fifth Third Arena. The game begins at 7 p.m.

UC President Nancy L. Zimpher, PhD, and Senior Vice President and Provost for Health Affairs Jane E. Henney, MD, will take part in the ceremony that celebrates Dr. Jensen’s Lasker Award, a highly respected recognition that has honored scientific accomplishments for 56 years.

Dr. Jensen, the George J. and Elizabeth Wile Chair in Cancer Research at UC, is a distinguished university professor in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy.

The Lasker Awards are the most coveted prize in biomedical research. Ohio has only two Lasker Award recipients, Dr. Jensen and UC’s Albert Sabin, MD, who developed the world’s first oral polio vaccine.
