Lindsell Appointed Associate Dean for Clinical Research and UC Health Vice President for Research

Christopher Lindsell, PhD, has been appointed associate dean for clinical research at the UC College of Medicine and vice president for research at UC Health. 

A professor and vice chair for research in the department of emergency medicine, Lindsell will lead and coordinate clinical research management activities at the college, UC Health and UC Physicians, including the clinical trials office, UC Health research office, and the many clinical research operations across the health system. 

The announcement was made jointly by College of Medicine Dean Thomas Boat, MD, UC Health President and CEO Jim Kingsbury and Melanie Cushion, PhD, the college’s senior associate dean for research.

In this new role Lindsell will develop college and UC Health-wide strategic initiatives to grow the research enterprise and build capacity for conducting clinical research. Additionally, he  will work with the leadership of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training (CCTST) to bridge between the academic clinical research environment and clinical research implementation at UC Health facilities.

"Clinical research is a core mission and operation of our health system, and I am looking forward to expanding the research options available to our patients, the research services available to investigators, and the quantity and quality of our clinical research programs,” Lindsell said. "We are well-positioned to use our new electronic health record for improving patient care as we embrace our future as a learning health system.”

The announcement called Lindsell "a prototypical collaborator” and noted his  "extensive experience as an active biomedical researcher and service as a research administrator. He is an ideal person to develop growth strategies and lead the effort to better utilize the electronic medical record system to enhance clinical research opportunities.”

Lindsell, who came to the UC in 2001, also serves as co-director of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design for the CCTST. He has been involved with many national organizations, including the Emergency Medicine Cardiac Research and Education Group steering committee and the National Emergency Department HIV Testing Consortium. 

Lindsell has served on numerous university, college and health system committees. Those include current involvement with the Academic Health Center Compliance Committee and the CTSA Steering Committee; the UC Health Research Executive Committee; and the University of Cincinnati Intellectual Property Committee. In the community he is a member of the United Way Impact Cabinet and the chair of the United Way Health Impact Council. 

Lindsell is co-director, co-investigator or biostatistician on a dozen funded research projects, many of which are supported by the National Institutes of Health. He is a co-author on more than 170 scientific papers in addition to more than 170 published and presented abstracts.
