UC to Host 2014 Neurobiology of Stress Workshop

The University of Cincinnati will host the 2014 Neurobiology of Stress Workshop, bringing some of the best researchers in the field together to discuss current findings to advance the understanding of the impact of stress on physiology, brain and behavior.

For four days (June 17-20), researchers will share their findings with basic, translational and clinical colleagues in workshops and poster sessions. Previous Stress Workshops were held in Boulder, Colorado (2010), and Philadelphia (2012).

The headquarters hotel is the Kingsgate Marriott Conference Center on UC’s medical campus.

The workshop will open at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, in Medical Sciences Building Room E-351 with Neurofest Speaker Carmen Sandi, PhD, professor of neuroscience at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, where she is director of the Brain Mind Institute and leads the Laboratory of Behavioral Genetics.

Opening remarks at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, will be given by James Herman, PhD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral neuroscience at the UC College of Medicine and director of UC’s Network for Neuroscience Discovery. Herman's talk will be followed by several breakout sessions; the day will end with a poster session, followed by dinner at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.

The workshop’s keynote address will be given at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, June 19, by Marian Joels, PhD, a professor of neuroscience at University Medical Center Utrecht/Utrecht University in the Netherlands and director of the Brain Center Rudolf Magnus.  Her topic will be, "Stress: It is all about time and timing.”

The workshop will end at noon Friday, June 20, with closing remarks by Herman.
