Research Week 2015 to Showcase How 'Research Works'

Research Week 2015 is an event to highlight and celebrate the past, present and future of research at UC, Cincinnati Children's, UC Health and the Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Presentations, panels, posters and exhibits will showcase our impact on the community, as well as intellectual and entrepreneurial contributions to improving health across the lifespan and the vast array of health research led by graduate students, care providers, residents, fellows and faculty. 

Highlights for the week include:

Monday, May 4:
11 a.m., Opening ceremony with a focus on brain injury, PTSD and recovery and the stories of research participants who have been impacted by health research
Speaker: General Peter Chiarelli (Ret.), CEO, One Mind
*Free refreshments and live entertainment will be part of the festivities.

Tuesday, May 5: 
9 a.m., "Creating Resources for Chronic Disease Epidemiology: The Million Veterans Program," presented by J. Michael Gaziano, MD, MPH, professor of medicine, Harvard Medical School. RSVP Requested.

Wednesday, May 6:
10 a.m., Introducing Industry: Technology fair and expo (Exhibit)
Noon, "Shark Tank” Research Competition (RSVP Requested)
4 p.m., "The Future of Health Research," presented by David Baltimore, PhD, Nobel Laureate, president emeritus and professor of biology, Caltech.

Thursday, May 7:
9 a.m. "One Problem Fits All – Adherence and Disease Management,", presented by Jacqueline Dunbar-Jacob, PhD, RN, dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing (RSVP Requested.)

11 a.m., "Lifespan Data Integration: Linking Data Across Generations to Impact Infant Mortality and Maternal Health," presented by Louis Muglia, MD, PhD, professor of pediatrics, UC College of Medicine; director of the Perinatal Institute, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
12:15 p.m., "Pratt Keynote Lecture: From Residency to Leadership," presented by C.W. Gowan, MD, chief of neonatology, Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.

Friday, May 8:
Noon "The Hutton Ethics Lecture: Moral Problems in the Research-Practice Distinction and in Oversight Systems to Protect Parents," presented by Tom Beauchamp, PhD, professor of philosophy and senior research scholar, Kennedy Institute of Ethics. (RSVP Requested.)

Call for Posters:

Organizers want to invite you to showcase your research during poster sessions being held during Research Week. Those interested must submit either a brief 250-word abstract or a digital image of the proposed poster. If an abstract is submitted, a poster presentation will be expected. You may submit work that has not yet been presented or work that has been presented any time in the past 12 months. The submission deadline is 5 p.m., March 13; early submission is requested. Accepted presenters will be notified by April 3.
