In a new short film created by CCM's Production Master Class, viewers can peek backstage to see how the September 2023 production of the musical rom-com Sweet Charity was designed and run by a team of students from throughout the college's Theatre Design and Production Department. Current CCM students Kali Ashurst, Baron Leon, Clara Cavins and Claire Bonnette, along with alumni guest artist Joshua E. Gallagher, discuss how they put their education into action while creating this acclaimed production.

Cincinnati Opera and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) have announced the next opera to be workshopped through their joint program, Opera Fusion: New Works (OF:NW): Lalovavi, with music by Kevin Day, libretto by Tifara Brown, and stage direction and dramaturgy by Kimille Howard.

CCM alumna Joélle Harvey (BM Voice ‘07, MM Voice ‘09) will join the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the May Festival Chorus for three performances of Johannes Brahms' large-scale Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem) at Cincinnati Music Hall later this month. Presented as part of Louis Langrée's final season as music director of the CSO, this large-scale work was written for orchestra and chorus with soprano and baritone soloists, and the CSO's Feb. 9-11 performances will feature Harvey as the soprano soloist, along with baritone soloist Will Liverman in his debut with the CSO.

Cincinnati Opera and CCM will workshop "The Highlands," a new opera by Carlos Simon, Lynn Nottage and Ruby Aiyo Gerber, through Opera Fusion: New Works Partnership. Commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera/Lincoln Center Theater New Works Program, The Highlands workshop culminates in a free, public presentation of excerpts on Saturday, March 23 at Music Hall’s Wilks Studio.

The celebrated vocal ensemble Gallicantus will visit the UC College-Conservatory of Music from March 2-6 for a professional choral singing residency with CCM's Choral Studies program. Under the direction of Gabriel Crouch, Gallicantus specializes in early and renaissance music. The group's CCM residency includes public lectures and workshops on topics ranging from the music of William Byrd to practical advice on building a career in music. Bookending the residency are two public concerts at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains in downtown Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati May Festival has announced the appointment of UC College-Conservatory of Music student Christin Sears as the May Festival Choral Conducting Fellow for the 2022-23 performance season, which is also the May Festival’s 150th anniversary season. A first-year student in CCM's doctoral program in choral conducting, Sears previously served as a school choral director in the Houston area for 12 years. She is an active clinician, soloist and singer in professional ensembles who served as the soprano section leader for CANTARE Houston.
