Groundbreaking engineer honored with alumni award

University of Cincinnati alumnus Keith Boswell embarked on a remarkable career journey that spanned more than 38 years at Caterpillar, Inc. His enduring commitment to excellence and his contributions to the engineering industry and his community were recently celebrated by his alma mater. Boswell was presented with the 2023 Herman Schneider Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Cincinnati Alumni Association and the UC College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Aerospace engineer works to improve helicopter turbulence at sea

Syed Qasim Zaheer is a doctoral candidate at the University of Cincinnati studying aerospace engineering, with a specialized interest in fluid dynamics and flow turbulence. His doctoral work has primarily focused on the analysis of air wakes from large ships during sea-based operations, and how to work towards preventing air wakes from causing turbulence to helicopters that land and take off from the ships. Zaheer is a recipient of the Professor R.T. Davis Memorial Scholarship, and was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

UC engineer explores better materials for clean energy solutions

Matt Steiner, assistant professor of materials science and engineering at UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS), is working to solve a piece of the puzzle that could lead to the development of more accessible alternative magnets. Steiner received the prestigious Department of Energy Early Career Research Award in 2023, granting him $875,000 to continue this research project over the next five years.

Civil engineering student aims to connect construction and community

Ever since he was a child, Joseph Cortas was enthralled by the energy of construction sites. While his initial fascination centered on large trucks, his childhood interest sent him down a path of professional and personal discovery. Today, Cortas is a fourth-year student concurrently pursuing bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering through the ACCEND accelerated degree program at the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS).

Engineering professor honored for distinguished scientific research

In 2019, Munir Nazzal joined the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science as a professor in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management. Throughout his time at UC, he has received various accolades for his advancements in transportation research, including the UC George Rieveschl Jr. Award for Distinguished Scientific Research for 2024.
