UC Bearcat Ventures inks first investment checks

Bearcat Ventures is a student-led initiative redefining experiential education in venture capitalism. It introduces students to the intricacies of early-stage startup investments and equips them with the knowledge and skills to make informed financial decisions. The two local startups chosen as Bearcat Ventures' first investments are Tembo, a Postgres developer platform founded by a former University of Cincinnati student, and Band Connect, a connected health platform co-founded by a UC DAAP alumna.

UC faculty unveil startup platform to redefine NIL landscape

May 8, 2024

UC faculty develop new platform for students to track scholarship criteria and monetize their name, image and likeness (NIL) for branding purposes. Carbon Copy Assets will launch a mobile application where students earn badges and rewards for verifying their participation at campus events like career fairs, student club meetings and volunteer opportunities. Students will also prove that they are building job and life skills such as financial and legal literacy. A blockchain will record these activities, allowing donors and employers to view a publicly verifiable, immutable list of achievements.

Recently, these young visionaries hosted an inaugural Gen-Z Insights showcase event at the UC 1819 Innovation Hub. The packed room of attendees included 1819 corporate partners such as Kao and Main Street Ventures and distinguished faculty and staff members. All were eager to hear and learn more from NIS scholars and the industry projects they worked on throughout the year.

Despite his penchant for hunting opportunities, this species shared no similarities with its aquatic counterpart. Renowned as one of the original "sharks" from ABC's acclaimed series, Shark Tank, Kevin Harrington recently brought his expertise to the UC New Venture Championship 2024 as a guest judge.
