CCM and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra report Diversity Fellowship program successes

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and the UC College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) are proud to announce recent successes of their CSO/CCM Diversity Fellowship program. Established in 2015 and launched with a grant from The Mellon Foundation, the nationally-recognized program amplifies and supports extraordinary young string players from populations historically underrepresented in American orchestras through a specialized, two-year graduate degree-level education, professional development and mainstage performance opportunities with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Four CSO/CCM Diversity Fellows have obtained full-time positions with major American orchestras for the 2022-23 season; additional Diversity Fellows successes include careers in music education, social change and orchestral administration.

CCM Media Production and UC Athletics make history with ESPNU broadcast

January 21, 2022

Thanks to a unique partnership between the UC College-Conservatory of Music's Division of Media Production and UC Athletics, students have had the unparalleled experience of producing live, multi-camera sports broadcasts for the ESPN+ streaming service since Fall 2020. Those student-produced streaming broadcasts made enough of an impression that UC was given an opportunity to help produce ESPNU's televised coverage of the UC vs. Tulsa men's basketball game on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022. UC is the first school in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) to hold this distinction.

CCM alumna featured in PBS broadcast

November 2, 2022

To celebrate its return to the newly renovated David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, the New York Philarmonic recorded a program of masterworks and world premieres to be broadcast on PBS. Led by Philharmonic Music Director Jaap van Zweden, the concert features CCM alumna Joélle Harvey (BM Voice '07, MM Voice '09) as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” The recorded program will premiere at 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, as part of PBS’s Great Performances series.

CCM's Opera Series presents Poulenc’s harrowing 'Dialogues of the Carmelites'

The UC College-Conservatory of Music opens its 2022-23 Opera Series with Francis Poulenc’s 1953 masterpiece, Dialogues of the Carmelites. One of the most revered operas of the 20th-century, this profound drama runs November 18-20 in CCM’s Corbett Auditorium. Guest artist Christopher Larkin conducts with stage direction by CCM Professor Robin Guarino. Tickets are on sale now through the CCM Box Office.

CCM violin concerto competition winner performs Mozart with the CCM Philharmonia

The CCM Philharmonia concludes its Fall 2022 Concert Series with a performance featuring this year's winner of CCM’s annual violin concerto competition: Cassidy Franzmeier. Titled Mozart and More, the concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, in CCM's Patricia Corbett Theater. Tickets are on sale now through the CCM Box Office.

WATCH: CCM presents 'A Voice Like Mine' mini documentary

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at CCM's acclaimed Voice and Opera programs courtesy of the new Backstage at CCM documentary series. Titled "A Voice Like Mine," this mini documentary spotlights bass-baritone John Mburu, who is pursuing his Master of Music degree in Voice Performance at CCM. Declared a "top college vocal program" by Backstage Magazine and described as “one of the continent’s major music schools” by the Toronto Star, CCM's Departments of Opera and Voice provide one of the most comprehensive training programs for opera singers, coaches and directors in the United States.

In Memoriam: CCM Dean Emeritus Robert J. Werner

The University of Cincinnati is saddened to share news of the passing of CCM Dean Emeritus Robert J. Werner. One of the most significant figures in CCM’s history, Werner passed away on Aug. 31, 2022, at the age of 90.
