Why study Computer Technology Endorsement?
The Computer Technology Endorsement offers licensed educators, in the State of Ohio, the opportunity to gain insight into and practice the necessary skills to create meaningful, engaging, digital learning experiences current for today's classrooms. Having this computer technology teaching endorsement alongside one's teaching credential allows educators additional career opportunities where an understanding of and practice with educational technology integration is required.
This endorsement consists of 15-credit hours and takes one full academic year at a part-time status to complete. Some of the courses offered in this program are:
- Applications and Issues of Teaching with Technology
- Applications of Design in eLearning
- Innovation and Technology Integration
These courses are also offered in our Master of Education in Instructional Design and Technology graduate program and our Blended Online Learning and Teaching (BOLT) graduate certificate.
This certificate also consists of professional experience in the field. During course IDT 7180: Learning Technology Professional Experience, students work 7-8 hours per week in a school, non-profit organization, or corporation to gain real-world experience in the field of Instructional Design and Technology.
Admission Requirements
The admissions requirements are as follows:

- Miniumum 3.0 undergraduate GPA from an accredited institution

This endorsement will help build your resume and up your game for taking leadership positions in a school related to technology integration. Graduates of this program will be prepared for the careers listed below. All opportunities may not be listed.
The information provided is sourced from a third party, Lightcast. Their product, called Career Coach, combines extensive labor market data from Lightcast and the U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics. It provides insights on industry, occupation, compensation, and projected growth for each profession. Economic and workforce information is available for various geographic regions. Some careers may require additional training or education.
Once admitted into the program, students are supported by a team who addresses questions related to class registration, the sequence of courses, licensure and applying to graduation.
Our Computer Technology Endorsement at the University of Cincinnati will uniquely leverage established partnerships in our local, regional and state K-12 community, providing critical connections to expert practitioners, extending networking opportunities for our students, and expanding students’ perspectives on the future of technology in K-12 education.
Program completion can occur at the end of any semester provided all requirements have been met. This includes obtaining a minimum of a 3.00 GPA.
All graduating students MUST apply for graduation to receive their certificate.
Be sure to meet with your advisor first to ensure your eligibility for graduation. After you have met with your advisor, please complete the online application for graduation by the stated deadline.
Once required coursework has been satisfactorily completed, students may take the appropriate state required exam and then apply to the state of Ohio for the Computer Technology Endorsement.
Courses taken prior to admission into the Computer Technology Endorsement program may be eligible for transfer into the program, if taken within 5 years prior to admission. The determination of transfer eligibility is based on a review of transcripts and course syllabi. Practicum coursework cannot be transferred into the program. All transferred courses must have approval of the program faculty.
