Why study Pharmaceutical Sciences : Drug Development?

The Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences with emphasis on Pharmaceutics/Drug Development (MSDD) is a two-year, online degree. Tailored to meet the aspirations of working professionals, the program can be completed on a part-time basis with coursework offered as an online learning basis.

A collaboration between academia, industry and government, the MSDD provides cross-disciplinary training in the scientific and regulatory and business aspects of drug development. Graduates are uniquely prepared to participate in the multidisciplinary process to translate a therapeutic concept from lab bench to bedside.

Admission Requirements

Students who have earned at least an undergraduate degree in chemistry, biology, engineering, or related disciplines from an accredited institution are eligible to apply for admission. A foundation study in Pharmacology is required, but applicants without this foundation may be admitted with the encouragement to complete the UC offered courses, such as the graduate certificate, prior to full engagement within the Drug Development program.

Programmatic minimum admission criteria include:

  • A U.S. bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or an equivalent degree from outside of the U.S.
  • A grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 or equivalent 
  • If English is not your native language, a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) of at least 90 (internet-based) or 235 (computer-based) is required. Alternatively, an IELTS- minimum score of 6.5 overall band, or Duolingo English test of at least 110 is accepted.

Consideration for admission requires completion of a UC Graduate Admissions Application and electronic submission the following documents:

  • CV or Resume
  • Statement of Purpose: Why do you plan to pursue a research-intensive MS degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Cincinnati? What is your desired research focus area within the broad field of Pharmaceutical Sciences?

 

Transcript information

All university transcripts (undergraduate and graduate if applicable; unofficial transcript is sufficient for initial review process).

 

Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation (applicants are encouraged to seek letters from individuals who can comment on research experience).

  • Completion of Plan of Study
  • Successful passing of Capstone
  • Cumulative grade point average of all didactic courses ≥3.0
  • Min of 30 credit hrs from track-based curriculum outline
  • No failing “F” grade in any of the degree-associated graduate course
