Why study Toxicology?
The Doctor of Philosophy in Toxicology curriculum emphasizes genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying environmentally-related diseases. Major focus areas for research are the genetic, epigenetic, biochemical and physiological determinants of individual and population susceptibility to environmental diseases. Research topics include carcinogenesis, respiratory diseases, obesity and diabetes, biodefense, microbial genomics and various organ-specific toxicities. Pathways studied include gene regulation, signal transduction, oxidative stress and mitochondrial function, metal transport and toxicity. Methodologies include transgenic and recombinant inbred mouse models, knockout mouse models, bioinformatics, epigenetics, proteomics, and genomics.

- Unofficial transcripts for ALL higher education institutions attended
- Three Letters of Recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic or professional background.
- GRE, GMAT, and/or MCAT scores
- The Admissions Review Committee will take into account many factors for admissions decisions. Official GRE, GMAT, or MCAT scores should be at the 50th percentile or better.
- International applicants whose native language is not English (please refer to the International Office's English Proficiency Requirement, https://grad.uc.edu/fac-staff/handbook/graduate-admission/international-admission/english.html) must take the TOEFL exam and submit official scores directly from the testing agency to be considered for the program. The above website also gives a list of additional exams and certificates that are approved by the University.
- International transcripts should be evaluated by WES.
- Official transcripts of all colleges and universities must be submitted if accepted to the program. These must be official, therefore copies cannot replace official records from higher educational institutions attended.

The deadlines for complete applications for each semester are as follows:
- Fall - July 1st
- Spring - November 1st
Only students applying to the full-time programs in Toxicology are eligible to receive University Graduate Assistantship funding. This funding in not available for our part-time MS or PhD programs in Toxicology. Funding is generally only available in the Fall semester and any application to be considered for funding must be completely submitted by February 1st.
