Third-Party Digital Tools & Accessibility

The University of Cincinnati is committed to ensuring that all third‑party digital tools and content we provide or make available is accessible to people with disabilities and aligned with our obligations under ADA Title II.

Electronic and information technology (EIT) used by UC—such as web‑based platforms, integrated learning tools, and mobile apps—must undergo an accessibility review before being adopted. This review helps UC understand how well a product supports users with disabilities and whether any gaps can be realistically addressed.

Vendors are expected to provide clear accessibility information, such as a current VPAT or Accessibility Conformance Report, an accessibility statement, and a contact for accessibility questions. For larger procurements and RFPs, accessibility is required as part of the evaluation process, alongside security, privacy, and functional fit. Vendors working with UC should coordinate with their UC purchasing or project contact for any accessibility-related questions.

An accessibility review may result in a tool being approved for use, approved with conditions, or determined not suitable if critical accessibility barriers cannot be resolved. This expectation applies whether a tool is acquired through a formal contract, a P‑Card purchase, or at no cost, if UC is providing or recommending it as part of our programs, services, or activities.

Third-Party Tools, Procurement, & Accessibility Reviews

Detailed procedures for UC faculty and staff—including when an accessibility review is required, how to submit a tool for review, and how to incorporate accessibility into RFPs and contracts—are available on UC’s intranet (Bearcats Landing). While this public page provides a general overview, the intranet includes comprehensive guidance on review procedures, procurement policies, potential outcomes, and step-by-step guidance on requesting a review.
