CCM Composition Professor awarded 2025 Wachtmeister Award

The UC College-Conservatory of Music congratulates Douglas Knehans, Professor of Composition, who was recently named the recipient of the 2025 Wachtmeister Award. Awarded every two years by the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA), the prize includes a 30 day residency at Mt. San Angelo in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, as well as a $1,000 honorarium and a travel stipend.

CCM hosts public lecture on rock music and politics in South...

The UC College-Conservatory of Music's public lecture series continues at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, with a talk on rock and politics presented by guest speaker Minerva Campion, who serves as Professor of Political Science at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Colombia. This talk is free and open to the general public. It will be presented in Watson Recital Hall, which is located on the 1000 level of the Corbett Center for the Performing Arts in the CCM Village.

CCM alumna wins Met Opera's Laffont Competition

UC College-Conservatory of Music alumna Emma Marhefka, soprano (MM Voice ’23) has "won the Met" in the grand finals of the 2025 Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition. One of the most prestigious singing competitions in the world, the Laffont Competition finals took place on March 16, with singers accompanied by the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Five singers won the finals including Marhefka. CCM singer Samuel Kidd, baritone (MM Voice ‘21), also competed in the final round.

Renowned pianist Orion Weiss joins Ariel Quartet in March 25...

The Ariel Quartet, CCM's String Quartet-in-Residence, concludes its 2024-25 season with a program featuring music by Beethoven and Hungarian composer Ernő Dohnányi. Joined by pianist Orion Weiss, the concert takes place Tuesday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Robert J. Werner Recital Hall. Tickets are on sale now through the CCM Box Office.

Watch selections from the CCM Philharmonia's Feb. 19 concert

The CCM Philharmonia student orchestra continued its 2024-25 concert season on Feb. 19, performing works inspired by the natural wonders and legends of Northern Europe and Russia. Dubbed "Northern Lights," the eclectic program included concertos by composers Alexander Scriabin and Sergei Prokofiev, giving student soloists a chance to shine. Selections from that concert are now available for on-demand viewing.

CCM Wind Symphony goes to the movies with John Williams...

The CCM Wind Symphony continues their season with Summon the Heroes: A John Williams Celebration. Featuring music from beloved blockbusters like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, the concert is a chance for audiences to experience movie magic in the concert hall. Rounding out the program is Gershwin’s showstopping Rhapsody in Blue, performed by CCM pianist Trinity Le. The concert takes place Wednesday March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Corbett Auditorium. CCM Choirs and Orchestra join forces for Brahms' powerful Requiem

The CCM Concert Orchestra is joined by both the CCM Chamber Choir and the CCM Chorale, as well as guest ensemble Musica Sacra, for Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, one of the most beloved works in the canon. The concert, which also features a world premiere by CCM Composition student Siyuan Kang, takes place Tuesday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Corbett Auditorium. UC's Bearcats Pantry and Resource Center opens new digs

February 27, 2025

UC officials opened new space for the Bearcats Pantry and Resource Center with a grand reopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The new pantry space is on the main floor of Stratford Heights, Building 16, on the Uptown campus.
